Young Adult Sober Living in Orange County

If you’re between 18 and 25 and trying to stay sober while finishing school or starting a career, the hardest part is often the hours nobody supervises. Higher Purpose Recovery pairs structured sober living in Orange County with an evening virtual IOP, so your days stay yours and your recovery still has a schedule.

Our homes sit in Fountain Valley and Westminster. Your clinical care happens online, from the house, on a HIPAA-compliant platform. Higher Purpose Recovery is accredited by the Joint Commission, ID #709594.

How Young Adult Sober Living Works at Higher Purpose Recovery

There are two parts, and they’re deliberately separate.

The housing. You live in one of our Orange County sober living homes, men’s or women’s, with residents who are also in recovery. Housing gives you an abstinent environment, a curfew, shared responsibilities, and people who notice when you go quiet.

The clinical program. Treatment is delivered through our virtual IOP, with groups Monday through Thursday in the evenings. Programs typically run 6 to 12 weeks. Evening scheduling is the point: you can hold a class schedule or a job during the day and still get real clinical structure at night.

Keeping the two separate is what lets the model work. The house is a place to live, not a treatment facility, and your therapy happens with licensed clinicians on a secure platform.

Who This Is For

Sober living tends to help most in the stretch right after structure disappears. You may be a fit if you’re 18 to 25 and any of this sounds familiar.

  • You’re stepping down from a higher level of care and going straight home feels risky
  • You’ve stayed sober in a structured setting and struggled once you were on your own
  • You need stable housing while you finish a semester or hold down a first job
  • You’re managing anxiety, depression, or trauma alongside substance use
  • You want evenings that are accounted for and people who expect to see you

If that reads like your situation, admissions can walk you through fit and next steps in one call.

What We Treat

Higher Purpose Recovery is mental-health first. Most young adults who come to us are working on a mental health condition, with substance use either alongside it or in the background.

Anxiety

Structure plus skills practice, so avoidance has less room to grow. Living with a routine and a curfew gives you daily reps between sessions.

Depression

House routines build behavioral activation into ordinary life, chores, meals, and meetings you're expected at, while therapy handles the harder work.

PTSD and complex trauma

Trauma-informed care is our central specialty. A predictable living environment lowers day-to-day reactivity, which makes trauma work more tolerable.

Co-occurring substance use

For young adults managing mental health and substance use together, the house handles abstinence and accountability while the clinical program handles the underlying condition.

Therapies in the Virtual IOP

All clinical services are therapist-led, trauma-informed, and delivered on a HIPAA-compliant platform.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for practical skills to shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotion regulation and relationship skills
  • Trauma-focused therapy delivered remotely by trained clinicians
  • Depression-focused therapy for motivation, energy, and routine
  • Reintegration and Next Steps group for the return to school, work, and independent living
  • Self-Compassion group for the self-talk that drives relapse
  • Individual therapy alongside group work, for one-to-one clinical oversight

House Standards

House rules exist so the home stays safe for everyone in it. Ours are straightforward.

  • Complete abstinence from alcohol and drugs, on and off property
  • A nightly breathalyzer and random urinalysis testing
  • A weekly house meeting every resident attends
  • Shared chores, assigned and expected
  • Curfew Sunday through Thursday at 11:00 PM, lights out at 11:30 PM
  • Curfew Friday and Saturday at midnight, lights out at 12:30 AM

The curfews are stricter than most 22-year-olds would choose. That’s the point. Predictable evenings are where early recovery either holds or doesn’t.

Insurance and Coverage for Sober Living

Insurance and Paying for
Young Adult Sober Living

These are two different questions, and conflating them is how families get surprised.

The clinical program. Insurance is where virtual IOP coverage lives. We work with major providers including Cigna, Aetna, Anthem, Blue of California, TRICARE, and Magellan Health. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so the only honest answer comes from running your benefits. We’ll do that for you.

The housing. Most health plans don’t reimburse sober living rent, because a recovery residence is housing rather than medical treatment. Plan on housing as a private-pay cost and on insurance as something that applies to the treatment you attend while you live there.

We don’t publish a rate on this page because the right number depends on which home and which level of clinical care. Admissions gives you the current figure on the call, with no obligation.

Our young adult programming serves ages 18 to 25. The sober living homes are gender-specific rather than age-specific, so you’ll live alongside other adults in recovery while your clinical programming is geared to your stage of life.

No. A sober living home provides housing, structure, and accountability. It isn’t a treatment facility and doesn’t provide clinical services on site. At Higher Purpose Recovery, your treatment happens through the virtual IOP while you live in the home.

Most plans don’t cover the housing itself, because it’s housing rather than medical care. Insurance more often applies to the virtual IOP you attend while living there. We verify your benefits and tell you what your specific plan covers.
