Hi Everyone,
My name is Wren, and I’m the founder of Higher Purpose Recovery.
Someone asked me today what makes my sober living different from all the others—and while I might be a little biased, I believe it truly does stand out.
I’m in recovery myself. I was incredibly lucky to get sober in a sober living home where the owner showed me compassion, love, and unwavering support. He became my biggest cheerleader and helped me believe in myself when I didn’t know how. That experience changed my life—and inspired me to give back.
So, I opened Higher Purpose Recovery to be that same kind of support for others. I get to be a coach and a cheerleader for every person in the house who's doing the work, showing up, following the rules, and holding themselves accountable. I let them know that everything they’ve dreamed of is possible, just like it was for me—if they’re willing to take a little bit of direction and trust the process.
Today, I can honestly say that my life is the best it’s ever been. I wake up every day grateful, still pinching myself. All because I was willing to take some direction and do the
work.
At Higher Purpose, we’re all about community. The guys here go to meetings together, they hit the beach, golf, surf, and do life side by side. They build strong bonds, support one another, and create a brotherhood that really helps each person rise above their addiction and mental health struggles. Because let’s face it—some days are hard. And it makes a world of difference when you walk through the door and have someone there to say, “Hey, I’ve been through that too.
It’s going to be okay.” That kind of support is powerful. I’m deeply passionate about what we do at Higher Purpose. I’m there regularly, checking in, encouraging the guys, and making sure they know if I could do it, they can too. Our home is rooted in love, kindness, accountability, and the belief that recovery is best done together.
That’s what makes Higher Purpose Recovery stand out.
Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you soon.
What is sober living and how does it differ from rehab? Sober living is a transitional housing option for individuals who have completed detox or a formal treatment program and are ready to reintegrate into daily life. Unlike residential rehab, sober living does not provide clinical treatment on-site. Instead, it offers a structured, substance-free environment where residents build accountability, practice life skills, and strengthen their recovery community while maintaining independence.
Who is eligible for sober living at Higher Purpose Recovery? Our homes welcome adults who are committed to sobriety, actively participating in a recovery program such as AA or NA, and ready to engage with the structure and community our homes provide. Because our locations are gender-specific, men are placed in our Los Reyes or Caltech Circle homes and women in our La Roca home. We encourage prospective residents to reach out directly so we can answer any specific questions about fit and availability.
How long do residents typically stay? Length of stay varies based on each person’s recovery goals and progress. Most residents stay between three and twelve months. Longer stays are common and often recommended, as extended time in a stable, sober environment is associated with stronger long-term outcomes.
What are the house rules at Higher Purpose Recovery? All residents are expected to remain completely abstinent from alcohol and drugs — on and off property. Rules include a nightly breathalyzer, random urinalysis testing, curfews (11 PM Sunday through Thursday, midnight on weekends), participation in weekly house meetings, completion of weekly chores, and active enrollment in a recovery program such as AA or NA. These expectations exist to protect every resident’s sobriety and wellbeing.
Are the sober living homes in Fountain Valley permitted and compliant? Yes. Higher Purpose Recovery operates in accordance with Fountain Valley’s municipal regulations for sober living homes, including Ordinance No. 1607, which the City Council adopted in March 2024. Our homes maintain required use permits and meet all applicable building, zoning, and state code requirements.
Does insurance cover sober living? Most insurance plans do not directly reimburse sober living costs, since sober living is considered supportive housing rather than clinical treatment. However, when paired with a clinical program like our Virtual IOP or IOP with Supportive Housing, some costs may be offset through your benefits. We accept Cigna, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, TRICARE, and Magellan Health for our treatment programs. Visit our insurance coverage guide for more detail.
How much does sober living cost in Fountain Valley? Sober living costs in California generally range from $1,500 to $3,500 per month depending on the home, location, and amenities. Higher Purpose Recovery offers competitive rates in a fully furnished, well-maintained environment. For a detailed breakdown, see our sober living cost guide.
Can I participate in outpatient treatment while living at HPR? Absolutely — and we encourage it. Many of our residents participate in Higher Purpose Recovery’s own Virtual IOP or IOP with Supportive Housing programming while living at one of our homes. Pairing clinical treatment with stable housing is one of the most effective approaches to sustained recovery.
Where are the Higher Purpose Recovery sober living homes located? We have three locations in Orange County. La Roca (Women’s Sober Living) and Los Reyes (Men’s Sober Living) are both located in Fountain Valley, CA 92708. Our third location, Caltech Circle, is a men’s home in Westminster, CA 92683 — a short drive from Bella Terra shopping center and close to local recovery resources.
How do I apply or get more information? The best first step is to call us at (949) 844-3813 or visit our contact page. We’re happy to answer questions about availability, program fit, and what to expect before move-in.
